Safety Comparison

The Honda Accord received a standard “Top Pick” safety designation from the IIHS. That means it got great results from crash testing, but it’s not enough to get ahead of the 2019 Kia Optima. 

The 2019 Kia Optima is one of only 28 vehicles to get the elusive “Top Safety Pick+” award from IIHS. The Optima registered top-level performance in roof crush tests, impact tests, and the new passenger-side small overlap crash test. It also got the highest, “Good,” rating for its headlights.

The 2019 Kia Optima also has safety features that you won’t see on the 2019 Honda Accord. One of these is the standard Active Headrests. Due to their special design, these headrests lower the risk of whiplash and spine and neck injuries in the event of a rear collision. This form of protection is not available on the Accord.

With the 2019 Kia Optima, you’re safer from side impact thanks to its Around View Monitor. This allows you to see objects from every angle around the car, which means you can react accordingly. Since the 2019 Honda Accord does not have this feature, you’re left vulnerable to side obstacles.

The driver’s seat also has an integrated memory system for side mirror and seat settings.

Both vehicles can carry up to 5 occupants and have almost equal volumes. When it comes to headroom, however, the Kia Niro has an edge, with 40 inches compared to the Nissan Rogue's 39 inches. Headroom is a huge determining factor for comfort, and the Kia Niro addresses this more efficiently, making it the winner in this category.

For its excellent performance in crash tests, the Kia Forte received the highest rating possible from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety — Top Safety Pick Plus. Only 28 vehicles earned this distinction. Unfortunately, the 2019 Hinda Civic did not receive the same stellar scores.

Finally, the 2019 Kia Forte is equipped with many state-of-the-art safety technologies such as crash mitigating brakes, traction control, rear parking sensors, rear-view cameras, four-wheel anti-lock brakes, lane departure warning systems, and daytime running lights.
