Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Geneva Auto Show was cancelled in March. That's where the new Sorento would've been unveiled.
 

Since that didn't occur, disguised and undisguised spy photos and several official images from Kia have given a good idea of what to expect. 

The 2021 Kia Sorento has been completely redesigned for the model year, being transformed from minivan-ish to muscular, and has taken some bold design cues from its larger sibling, the Kia Telluride (Motortrend's 2020 SUV of the Year).



Just like the Telluride, the 2021 Sorento has a boxy, prominent front end, and the expansive new grille makes the front seem even wider. The headlamps, which are now integrated in the grille, feature "tiger eye" LED daytime running lights, which suggest the "intense impression of the lines around a tiger's eyes." The 2021 Sorento also has a more windswept design due to the A-pillar being pushed back slightly. The Telluride's influence can also be seen in the strong character lines, the vertical tail lamps, and the model name spelled out in bold lettering across the rear of the vehicle. 

The redesigned 2021 Kia Sorento in Albuquerque NM has yet to make its public debut in the U.S, but Kia says it's increased the overall length of the Sorento by almost a half-inch, while extending the wheelbase about 1.4 inches - which should translate into a more spacious cabin and additional cargo room. Without providing interior specs, Kia says the cabin IS more spacious and its new interior looks fantastic. There's a large screen, a rotary shifter, supple-looking upholstery on the seats, and some appealing ambient lighting. The design of the interior door handles harkens back to the Telluride as well.

It still packs three rows of seats, accommodating up to seven passengers. Kia has brought in an available mood lighting system with the same type of trim found in the smaller Soul. The high-quality cabin boasts an optional 10.25-inch (8.0-inches is standard) touchscreen infotainment system and an even larger 12.3-inch digital driver instrument cluster. The digital gauges have different designs for the car's drive modes and the lane change cameras take over when the driver uses the turn signals. A head-up display is also available to ensure the driver keeps his/her eyes on the road.

Safety is at the forefront of the new 2021 Kia Sorento in Albuquerque NM with high levels of active and passive safety technology. All of the usual safety goodies are found here but the Sorento also gets the Smart Parking Assist first seen on the Hyundai Sonata. It also features Kia's level two autonomous driving technology, allowing the car to brake and steer at speeds of up to 112 mph.

The 2021 Sorento lineup will feature a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission. The engine is expected to have around 277 horsepower. All-wheel drive will be optional as well as a hybrid powertrain that combines a turbo 1.6-liter four-cylinder with an electric motor. The latter produces 59 hp and combines with the gas engine to make 227-hp in total output. There may be a base engine that's less powerful than both of these setups, but the company won't confirm whether that's true or not. 

The 2021 Kia Sorento in Albuquerque NM is packed with technology including Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and the ability to connect two devices via Bluetooth at the same time. Other convenience features include a wireless charger, Bose audio system, and seven USB chargers.

At this time, trim levels haven't been released, nor have prices. However, you can expect the 2021 Sorento to arrive at Fiesta Kia in late 2020. When it arrives, let the adventure begin!
