Prototype Spotted of the 2022 Kia Sportage in Albuquerque NM

 Recently seen spy photos of the camouflaged and redesigned prototype of the 2022 Kia Sportage in Albuquerque NM suggest an overall look that puts it more in line with some of Kia's current models.

Just like its corporate cousin Hyundai, Kia has been hard at work overhauling its lineup of crossovers. And again like Hyundai, Kia has made sure that any lingering ideas of its cars being considered "boring" are gone with newly restyled models such as the award-winning Telluride and the new K5 sedan. With realistic renderings and spy shots popping up all over the Internet, we have a few ideas of how the remodeled compact crossover SUV could look when it gets here.

 

2022 Kia Sportage in Albuquerque NM: New Grille

In some of the posted spy photos, the headlights are hidden from view behind the covering, but appear to be a new shape and also aligned with the larger new grille. In these same photos the rear end is hard to discern under all the wrapping, but seems to have kept the LED tail light bar.

Other spy shots reveal a rear end with a spoiler on the top of the lift gate and a ducktail type overhang midway up, beneath the rear window. On this model of the 2022 Kia Sportage the front fascia looks similar to the current front end. However, we think it may get some version of the newer look like that of the K5.

Many different renderings have made their way to various automotive websites, with varying degrees of similarities and changes. Some hint at the body of the vehicle getting a bit heavier, although the general shape should remain very similar to the current model. Another rendering of the Kia Sportage displayed angular headlight clusters and distinct LED daytime running lights that are very similar to those on the aggressive new K5 from Kia. We've also noticed the new Kia logo on a couple of the renderings as well.

Adding to the bold new look may be more defined wheel wells and bumpers, and a more angular configuration of Kia's famous "tiger nose grille." In this example, it stretches across most of the front end and incorporates the headlights into the design.

We also expect the 2022 Kia Sportage in Albuquerque NM to increase its size for this new generation. Even though a decent amount of passenger space is offered in the current Sportage, the cargo space is not enough when compared to its competitors.

 

Since the Kia Sportage uses the same platform as its cousin, the 2022 Hyundai Tucson, we think it may also get the same powertrain choices. The standard engine is a 2.5 liter 4-cylinder that has 187 hp and 178 lb-ft of torque. Also available is a 1.6-liter hybrid putting out 226 hp and a 1.6-liter plug-in hybrid delivering 261 hp.
