In July of 2021, a heavily camouflaged prototype of the updated Kia Telluride was seen, and speculation began as to what changes were coming. Since then, there hasn’t been any news about the award-winning SUV except for a trademark filing which hints that a new X-Pro trim may be in the works. However, the internet is abuzz with recent test model spy shots that reveal more details.
Spy Shots Show Exterior Changes
So what are some of the updates in store for the 2023 Kia Telluride in Albuquerque, NM? The most noticeable change from the circulating photos is at the front, with new LED daytime running lights. As a result, the turn signals also have a new look, and the entire vertical layout of the lighting setup is much enhanced by the changes. The rectangular DRLs of the current model Telluride are gone, and two parallel strips of light have replaced them, on top of which the main headlights rest.
The familiar honeycomb pattern can be seen through the mesh of the disguise, but it’s arranged vertically on the redesigned grille rather than horizontally. The new logo, seen on this year’s models, is in the center of the grille. There could be minor changes to the front bumper, but nothing significant. Stacked fog lights, much like those found on the redesigned Sportage, can be seen.
No changes are expected for the side profile, but the following year’s models could see new wheels available. At the rear, the camouflage covering doesn’t offer much in the way of viewing what’s underneath. The taillights appear to be carried over and include vertical reflectors, but it’s difficult to tell for sure. The rear bumper is hardly visible but could get a slight redesign, while the dual exhaust tips seem identical to the ones on the current model.
What About Interior Changes?
No one has seen directly into the cabin, but we expect various changes. It’s been noted that the dashboard may have been redesigned since facelifted cousin Hyundai Palisade got a freestanding instrument cluster, a new steering wheel, and a revised dashboard. The Telluride may receive similar updates. It appears (in a zoomed-in shot) that side-by-side display screens like the ones in the smaller Sportage will be installed in the 2023 Kia Telluride in Albuquerque, NM. The 2022 models were updated with 10.3-inch screens, which we doubt will change. We’ll guess that it’s entirely digital for the refreshed model.
Will the 2023 Kia Telluride in Albuquerque, NM get More Power?
We’re guessing that the Telluride’s 3.8-liter V6 engine that can deliver 291 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque won’t change. An 8-speed automatic transmission drives it, with the option of an all-wheel-drive system. When properly equipped, the current Telluride can tow up to 5,000 lbs and has a payload of up to 1,664 lbs. It accelerates from 0-60 mph in about 7.5 seconds, which is average for a vehicle of its size and weight.
No rumors have been heard about new engine choices, but perhaps a hybrid or fully electric option will soon make its way. The current Telluride gets an EPA rating of 20 mpg city and 26 mpg on the highway, also about average for its class.
With the patent filing mentioned above for the Sorento X-Pro, Telluride X-Pro, and Telluride X-Line, we’re hoping the Telluride will become more off-road-ready straight from the factory!
